Planting the Seeds of Change

Small seeds can grow into powerful change—nourishing not only our bodies, but also our communities. That’s why we are incredibly excited and honored to support the upcoming “Seeding CalFresh” event hosted by the UC San Diego Basic Needs Center.

Supporting Students Through Basic Needs

This inspiring initiative, led by CalFresh Coordinator Kalayah Wilson, is dedicated to addressing food insecurity while promoting sustainable, hands-on learning experiences for students. Through programs like CalFresh enrollment assistance, the Triton Food Pantry, and housing and financial support services, the Basic Needs Center plays a vital role in helping students thrive both academically and personally.

Hands-On Learning for a Healthier Future

The “Seeding CalFresh” event brings an empowering vision to life—teaching students how to grow their own food while raising awareness about essential campus resources. Participants will gain practical experience in seed germination and plant care, working with a variety of herbs and vegetables such as cilantro, basil, broccoli microgreens, and green onions.

We are proud to contribute to this effort by donating seeds to support the event. This partnership is a perfect reflection of our mission: empowering individuals to grow their own food, fostering sustainability, and building stronger, more resilient communities.

Growing Connection and Confidence

There is something transformative about planting a seed. For many students, this experience may be the beginning of a lifelong connection to food, health, and environmental stewardship. By making gardening accessible and approachable, we can help cultivate confidence, independence, and a deeper understanding of where our food comes from.

Looking Ahead

At Vlada’s Seeds of Life, we are especially passionate about engaging youth and young adults in sustainability efforts. College campuses like University of California San Diego are powerful spaces for innovation, education, and community impact. Supporting students during such a formative time in their lives makes this initiative even more meaningful to us.

We are deeply grateful to be part of this important work and look forward to seeing the seeds of knowledge, resilience, and sustainability grow within the UC San Diego community.
