There are moments in every community project that remind you exactly why you started. This week, Little Sprouts experienced one of those moments.
We received the most heartfelt email from Megan Pickett, Adult Programming Librarian at Paul Sawyier Public Library in Frankfort — and her words perfectly captured the spirit of what Little Sprouts is all about.
“I cannot properly express via email the delight I felt when opening your box of donated seeds today. The timing could not be better.”
As it turns out, the timing truly couldn’t have been more aligned. This Saturday, Megan and the Franklin County extension agent are hosting a seed swap at the library — a gathering centered around sharing, learning, and growing together. To know that our donated seeds arrived just in time for such an event feels serendipitous…
What makes this even more special is Megan’s background. Though this is her first year serving as a public librarian, she brings over 25 years of experience in horticulture. She shared that she has been ordering from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds for as long as she can remember. Hearing that someone with such deep roots in gardening received our Little Sprouts seed donation with genuine excitement is incredibly meaningful to us
Her message ended simply and beautifully:
“We will put this donation to great use. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
That gratitude flows both ways.
Little Sprouts was created with the hope of nurturing curiosity, sustainability, and connection within communities. Libraries are natural hubs for this kind of growth — places where knowledge is shared freely and where neighbors gather with intention. Seeing Little Sprouts welcomed so warmly at the Paul Sawyier Public Library affirms that this initiative is planting seeds far beyond the soil.
We are hopeful this is just the beginning. With passionate partners like Megan and her team, we believe Little Sprouts can continue to grow — perhaps even becoming an annual tradition that communities look forward to year after year.
