We are delighted to announce that Vlada’s Seeds of Life has elected a new president, Silvia Higuera-Backlund.

Silvia is a lifelong creative, illustrator, and community-minded designer with more than 38 years of experience in visual communications. Throughout her career, she has used art, joy, and creativity to bring people together, guided by her deep belief in the power of family, connection, and shared experiences.

Raised in a home where family meals, prayer, and gathering around the table were cherished daily rituals, Silvia carries these values with her in everything she does. Although she humbly says she is not the primary cook in her family, she finds great joy in watching her husband and two children thrive in the kitchen together.

Inspired by Vlada’s Seeds of Life work, Silvia has also begun dreaming of growing her own garden, embracing the idea that families can learn, cook, and grow food together. This vision beautifully reflects both her childhood memories and her hopes for building stronger, more connected communities.

Silvia steps into this role building on the dedicated efforts and meaningful work of our former president, Nina Cullen. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to Nina for her leadership, commitment, and invaluable contributions to Vlada’s Seeds of Life. Her impact has helped shape the strong foundation we continue to grow from today.
