The Little Sprouts seed program from Vlada’s Seeds of Life has been warmly welcomed by the Sacramento Public Library in Sacramento, California.
Recently, the library reached out to express their gratitude for the donation of heirloom seeds that will help support their growing network of 17 Seed Libraries across the county. These seed libraries serve communities from Orangevale and Pocket–Greenhaven to Elk Grove, Courtland, and Isleton—reaching residents throughout the region.

In a message to our team, Library Assistant Caitlin Matzke shared the excitement surrounding the program:
“We were stunned to receive this massive donation of heirloom seeds which will substantially bolster our supplies across our 17 Seed Libraries.”
Seed libraries are becoming an increasingly important part of community learning. Every month, hundreds of visitors stop by library branches to pick up seeds, learn about gardening, and explore ways to grow their own food. These simple packets of seeds open the door to hands-on education, sustainability, and healthier lifestyles.

As Caitlin noted in her message:
“By making seeds available to visitors, barrier-free, we encourage hands-on learning and enrichment, self-sufficiency, ecological mindfulness, and nutrition.”

For the team at Vlada’s Seeds of Life, this kind of feedback is deeply meaningful. The Little Sprouts program was created with a vision of helping communities reconnect with nature, food, and gardening—especially children and families who may not otherwise have easy access to these experiences.
Libraries play a unique role in making that vision possible. By offering seeds alongside books and educational programs, they create spaces where curiosity can grow—literally.
“Your generous donation will keep on giving all year long as we move through the seasons—and for those who harvest and save their seeds, years to come.”

Knowing that the seeds will be planted in gardens throughout California’s capital—and that many gardeners will save and replant them for future seasons—reminds us that a single seed can have a lasting impact.
We are incredibly grateful to the Sacramento Public Library for their partnership and dedication to serving their diverse communities. Together, we look forward to watching the Little Sprouts program continue to grow.
